How to: use Scrying Monster section?
User Manual for the Scrying Monster Section
Overview
The Scrying Monster section provides a powerful tool for divination, enabling users to search, filter, and
predict outcomes related to monsters. By configuring the provided filters, selecting a
Monster name
and using the
button, you
can search for specific monsters or uncover hidden insights about their characteristics. This section is
perfect for predictive or exploratory searches in your adventures.
How to use the Scrying Monster Section
1. Select Monster Name
- Use the dropdown labeled Scrying Monster to choose a specific monster from the list. This dropdown
dynamically updates based on the filters applied in the sections below (e.g., Size, Type, Alignment,
Environment, and CR).
- If you wish to search for a specific monster by name, start by setting the filters to narrow down the
list.
Example: If you don't know the monster's name begins is
"Death Slaad," apply appropriate filters (e.g., "Large,"
"Chaotic Evil," "Aberration," and "CR 10") to locate it in the dropdown.
2. Filter Options
Note:
The filters allow you to refine the monster list based on specific attributes. Each filter influences the
displayed options in the Scrying Monster dropdown.
Size:
- Use the "Size" dropdown to filter monsters by size.
- Options include Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, Huge, and Gargantuan.
Type:
- Use the "Type" dropdown to filter monsters by their type.
- Options include e.g., Aberration, Undead, Beast, Celestial, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Fey, Fiend,
among others.
Alignment:
- Use the "Alignment" dropdown to filter monsters by their alignment (e.g., Chaotic Evil, Lawful Good).
CR:
- Use the "CR" dropdown to filter monsters by their Challenge Rating (e.g., 1, 5, 10).
- This allows you to search for monsters of a specific difficulty level. The dropdown displays both whole
numbers and fractional values (e.g., 1/4, 1/2).
Environment:
- Use the "Environment" dropdown to filter monsters by the environment they inhabit (e.g., Swamp, Arctic).
- Note: Selecting an environment resets the Size, Type, and Alignment filters to ensure only monsters from
the selected environment are displayed.
3. Statblock Generation
Once a monster is selected, the user has to click the Augury button
These values are in the result of Augury:
- AC (Armor Class): Base defense value.
- HP (Hit Points): The monster's health.
- Speed: Movement speed in feet.
- Attributes: Strength (STR), Dexterity (DEX), Constitution (CON), Intelligence (INT), Wisdom (WIS), and
Charisma (CHA).
- (development pending) Vulnerabilities, Immunities, Gear, and Actions: Additional stats and actions the
monster can perform.
4. Actions
Summon:
This button generates a random monster from the filtered list.
Scrying (Augury):
After configuring filters and selecting a
Monster name
, press the
button to predict the outcome of your
action.
Augury only works if a Monster Name is selected, otherwise it returns a random monster no matter what filter
is selected.
Practical Use Cases
Targeted Search: Use multiple filters to quickly locate
a specific monster (e.g., a "Large Aberration" with "CR 10").
Exploration: Experiment with different filters to
discover monsters you may not have considered before.
Preparation: Use the statblock preview to study the
monster’s characteristics before encountering it in a campaign.
Example: If you are looking for a specific monster, such
as a "Beast" apply appropriate Type filter to narrow down the dropdown list to only Beasts and see what is
in the list, select one of them and Augury it.
Tips for Effective Use
1: Start with broad filters and narrow them down
incrementally for the best results.
2: Remember that filters are cumulative; combining Size,
Type, Alignment, Environment, and CR will limit the results to monsters matching all selected criteria.
3: Reset filters if the dropdown becomes empty, as
overly specific combinations might exclude all options..
4:
Utilize the dynamic filtered Monster name list to ensure the selected monster matches your requirements
before proceeding.
Note: By following this guide, you can fully leverage
the Scrying Monster section to enhance your gameplay and achieve precise, meaningful results for your
campaigns.
